ABOUT THE ARTIST

I grew up on my family’s dairy farm in rural Vermont. My creative family encouraged art, music, and theater. Life was centered around the events and animals on the farm. This rural lifestyle developed within me an appreciation, interest, and love for the details of nature. I began drawing at an early age and draw upon my rich up-bringing as inspiration for my art.

I am largely a self-taught artist and enjoy working in oil, depicting landscapes, wildlife, and domestic animals. My compositions are up-close and personal, conveying the personality of the animal or the atmosphere of a special place.

Professionally, I've worked as a floral designer and in horticulture.

Also a member of the local Artist Guild, I'm active in art shows and have received many awards for my entries.

Art fills a need in our lives.  My desire is to use my creativity to fill that need through my paintings.  Art is a resting place, a place to stop and listen.  I hope you will have a personal experience through my art.

What Inspires my art

I am motivated to paint because of the joy our natural surroundings bring to us. We often go by in a rush, not aware of our surroundings, but there are details to be seen in each bird or tree. I want to bring those details forward to be enjoyed. The beauty and details of our creator abound around us, and my goal is to convey them through my art.

The way that I see my subjects has always seemed like a natural flow. It comes from the urge to see the details in a flower or the feathers on a bird. When I first saw the well-known ‘Oriental Poppies’ by Georgia O’Keeffe, it had a large impact on how I wanted to view nature.

Making art is an act of faith, opening opportunities to walk closer to the creator. Spirituality and creativity are connected.  We are creations and through art we are intended to be creative as well.
